Oh Canada!
The city of sushi and ducks
Hi-ya pals,
I recently got back from Vancouver and I mainly wanted to tell you about all the food I ate there. Surprise surprise. ALSO - thank you to everyone who came out to the Modjeska show a few weeks ago. I love playing clarinet and singing and making music with my friends. Hire me to play clarinet in your band! I’m returning to my musical roots and going Squidward-mode :p
Ok. Back to Canada. I’ve been to Vancouver a few times before and have always had a nice time. This time I got to bring my sweetie. Yay!
Best thing we ate: Ocean Goose Sushi
I am still dreaming about and missing this sushi. It was soooo good. Look how beautiful. All the colors! Exquisite interesting flavors! Of course in Vancouver you’re gonna get high quality fish. And I will also say that everyone who worked here was SO nice.
Special shoutout to this pistachio and pear tart. Delish.
Worst thing I ate (wasn’t even that bad but due more to the general experience): This tiny ass corndog from a booth at the Vancouver Jazz Festival
Don’t let this photo deceive you - this corn dog was disappointingly small. It was also like $10. And it took 20 min. Does this complaint make me sound like an asshole American tourist? Maybe. But SUE ME I want my corn dogs BIG and FAST and that’s the only thing I like about our godforsaken evil country thank you very much.
Bonus shoutout: Salmon n’ Bannock
Thank you Adrian for the rec! This is the only indigenous restaurant in Vancouver. It was yummy and pricey and had a lovely vibe. Highlight of the meal was this appetizer - mushroom, brie and bison gravy on bannock. For those who don’t know, bannock is a yeast-free quick bread that is hearty and delicious.
Vancouver is a lovely city - so much beautiful greenery and birds and some of the best Asian food you can get on this continent probably. I really loved biking around Stanley Park - we saw so many ducklings :’)
Ok last thing: There’s a sandwich spot at the end of Harvey Milk terminal in SFO that has really good BLTs. Can’t remember what it’s called but maybe if you’re lucky u will find it ;)
What I’ve been listening to:
Eli - Stage Girl
Kim Petras - Detour
New Olivia Rodrigo!
I’m having a big pop moment rn. The girls are reigning supreme. Trans women are making the best pop music of the summer btw. But that’s nothing new.
Ok that’s all from me for now. Hope you’re all enjoying your summers!!! <3 Ciao.
